The river Jura – one of the most interesting and most beautiful in Lithuania. The Jura is watery, quite swift with a few cascades. This is one of the few Lithuanian rivers possible to kayak on the driest summer and rainy autumn. The Jura is especially loved by tourists who like active holidays, attracted by gains of natural beauty and are not afraid of challenges. The beginning of Jura is very narrow, shallow, lush flora, sometimes you even find fallen trees in the riverbed. Those, who are not afraid to get wet, get out and, if necessary, even to carry a kayak to overcome the obstacle, exactly will find this difficult section, the most suitable for them.
Starting from Paragaudis village (3rd stop on the map) the river Jura increasingly gains its characteristic appearance. The width of the riverbed here reaches 15-25 meters, the water initially calm and then dynamically changes. There are plenty of rocks, especially in the shallows. Flow of the river in such places seems very swift, the picture and sound are charming. This is the most favorite section among tourists. Because this part of the river is not boring and, especially when there is enough water, it is very easy to navigate. The landscape is very diverse, the river meanders in twists, there are several footbridges, you pass a local road bridge as well. This section is rich in a convenient places to get off from the kayak for a relax on the coast, make a fireplace, have a picnic or just eat some snacks while enjoying good weather.
If started a little further on at Padievaitis rural mound (5th stop on the map), you quite easily overcome the river route to the Pajuris town (13th or 15th stops) or even further.
When planning a trip you can select the desired tracks and the length of the route. It is possible to do kayaking from April to October. However, you should asses your capabilities and weather conditions, a few intermediate stations are not always reachable by car, that is why sometimes transportation is not available and you have to go further to take you back after the trip. The estimated distance is much easier to overcome if there is higher water level in the river.
